How to tie the Non-slip loop knot
Leaves a fixed loop at the hook eye so the lure swings freely.
Also called: Kreh loop, Lefty's loop
Why this knot
A jig, streamer or suspending jerkbait moves differently on a loop than tied tight. On pressured fish that difference shows up in the catch.
Tie it
Step 1 of 5
- 1 Tie a loose overhand knot in the line about 10 inches from the tag end. Leave it open.
- 2 Pass the tag end through the hook eye, then back through the overhand knot, entering the same way it left.
- 3 Wrap the tag around the standing line four or five times.
- 4 Bring the tag back through the overhand knot once more, from the same side as before.
- 5 Wet it. Pull the tag to close the wraps, then pull the standing line to seat the knot and set the loop size. Trim.
That's the knot. Wet it, seat it, and pull against it before you cast.
Getting it right
- Set the loop small, about a quarter inch. A big loop tangles and adds nothing.
- Four wraps for heavy leader, five for light.
- The tag has to re-enter the overhand knot on the same side both times, or it will not hold.
What goes wrong
- Entering the overhand from the wrong side on the return pass.
- Leaving too large a loop, which fouls the hook on the cast.
