How to tie the Double uni knot
Joins two lines — braid to a fluoro leader, or mono to mono.

Why this knot
It handles lines of different diameter and material, which is exactly the braid-to-leader case most anglers need.
Tie it
Step 1 of 6
- 1 Overlap the two lines by about 8 inches, running in opposite directions.
- 2 With the first line, tie a uni knot around the second: fold back, form a loop, wrap through it five times.
- 3 Wet and snug that first uni, but leave it a couple of inches from the end.
- 4 Repeat with the second line around the first. Use six or seven wraps if that line is braid.
- 5 Wet both knots, then pull the standing lines apart so the two barrels slide together and lock.
- 6 Trim both tags close.
That's the knot. Wet it, seat it, and pull against it before you cast.
Getting it right
- More wraps on the thinner or slicker line. Braid needs six or seven where mono needs five.
- Pull the standing lines, never the tags, to bring the knots together.
- If your leader is more than about twice the diameter of your main line, this knot gets bulky. Consider the FG knot.
What goes wrong
- Equal wraps on both sides when one line is braid. The braid side slips.
- Trimming before the barrels are locked together.
