Oklahoma · Fishing license · Age

What age do you need a fishing license in Oklahoma?

From 18 on, with no upper limit.

The ages that matter

Under 18
No license needed

Children can fish without one. Everything else still applies though — limits, sizes and seasons do not change with age.

18 and up
License required

Carry it with you while fishing.

65 and up
Cheaper, not free

Oklahoma has no cheaper annual licence for older residents. Instead a resident of 65 or over can buy a lifetime fishing licence outright for $30, less than one annual licence at $31. Separately, non-residents of 65 and over who live in Texas need no Oklahoma licence at all.

How ODWC words it

ODWC: "An Oklahoma fishing license is required of all persons 18 or older who take, attempt to take or possess fish or other aquatic dwelling organisms by any method in Oklahoma." Eighteen is the highest threshold of any state on this site — everywhere else the licence starts somewhere between 10 and 16. Anyone 17 or younger fishes without one, resident or visitor.

Quoted rather than paraphrased. With rules that carry a fine, the exact wording is the point.

Other ways to be exempt

Age is one route. ODWC lists these as well.
