How long it lasts
ODWC counts days rather than calendar years: the annual licences run "365 Days" from purchase and the one-day licence covers a day of your choosing, expiring at midnight. The Lake Texoma licence is the exception and runs January 1 to December 31.
Who doesn't need one
- Anyone 17 or younger, resident or visitor
- Non-residents 65 and over who are residents of Texas
- Resident owners and tenants, with their spouses, parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren and those children’s spouses, fishing private ponds on land they own or lease
- Anyone legally blind or physically impaired who cannot properly use fishing equipment — and one companion accompanying them while they fish
- Patients of Oklahoma state institutions for mental illness or alcohol and drug dependency, and people with a developmental disability living in a group home or institution, when accompanied by an attendant or guardian or fishing on institutional grounds
- Job Corps trainees carrying proper identification
- Participants in sanctioned aquatic education events
ODWC words the age rule this way: ODWC: "An Oklahoma fishing license is required of all persons 18 or older who take, attempt to take or possess fish or other aquatic dwelling organisms by any method in Oklahoma." Eighteen is the highest threshold of any state on this site — everywhere else the licence starts somewhere between 10 and 16. Anyone 17 or younger fishes without one, resident or visitor.
