Do I need one?
Yes — anyone 12 or older needs one.
A year costs $50 if you live here and $138 if you don't. Just passing through? One-day angling and shellfish costs $29. Salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut need the combined angling tag on top of the licence.

Oregon splits the licence from the tag. Salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut need the combined angling tag on top: 69 for residents, 89 for visitors. Ocean fishing adds the 9-dollar endorsement, new for 2026, or 4 for a day.
How long it lasts
ODFW: "Fishing licenses are valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31" — a calendar year, whenever you buy it. A licence bought in November is worth two months.
Who doesn't need one
- Anglers young enough to fall under ODFW's youth rules — the youth licence itself costs 10 dollars
ODFW words the age rule this way: ODFW sells a youth licence at 10 dollars, which is what anglers under 18 buy; the fee schedule read carries the youth line but no age wording, so the exact lower bound is taken from ODFW's licence structure rather than quoted.
