Free fishing days in New York

DEC sets them by a recurring rule rather than a fixed date.

On these days you can fish New York waters without a license. Nothing else changes: limits, sizes, seasons and closed waters all still apply.

The rule, not a date

DEC designates several days across the year on which no freshwater fishing licence is needed — typically a winter weekend, a June weekend, National Hunting and Fishing Day in September and Veterans Day in November. Every other fishing regulation stays in force on those days.

We found no page where DEC states this year's dates outright, so the rule stands here instead of a date we worked out ourselves. A calculated date that turns out wrong costs someone a fine.
