How much is a fishing license in Arizona?
$37 a year if you live here, $55 if you don't.
Just passing through? Short-term combo hunt and fish, per day costs $20 — the annual pays for itself from about 3 of those.
Every license price
| License | Who | Price |
|---|---|---|
| General fishing, adults 18 and over | Resident | $37 |
| Youth combo hunt and fish, ages 10 to 17 The same $5 for residents and visitors. It is the only product AZGFD names for that age group, and it covers hunting too. | Resident | $5 |
| Combo hunt and fish Only worth it if you hunt as well. | Resident | $57 |
| Short-term combo hunt and fish, per day Arizona sells no fishing-only day licence. The short-term product is a combination licence, so a day of fishing costs $15 and the annual pays for itself from the third day. | Resident | $15 |
| General fishing, adults 18 and over | Visitor | $55 |
| Youth combo hunt and fish, ages 10 to 17 Visitors pay the same $5 as residents — the cheapest licence Arizona sells to anyone from out of state. | Visitor | $5 |
| Combo hunt and fish | Visitor | $160 |
| Short-term combo hunt and fish, per day Again a combination licence, not a fishing-only one. From the third day the $55 annual is cheaper. | Visitor | $20 |
How long your money lasts
AZGFD: "All licenses are valid 365 days from the date of purchase." Arizona runs no licence year at all — buy in August and you are covered to the following August. Licences cannot be returned for refund or exchange.
What we could not pin down
Rather than fill these in from somewhere else, they stay open until AZGFD states them plainly.
- azgfd.com refuses automated requests. These figures were read from the rendered live pages, the same way Ohio, Michigan and Massachusetts were done.
- Two AZGFD pages pull in different directions on community lakes. The licence page says a fishing licence covers "any public accessible water in Arizona", but the Pioneer License is described as carrying combination-licence privileges "and also" authorising fishing in all community lakes — which reads as though the ordinary combination licence does not. Whether a plain general fishing licence covers the community lakes is left open here rather than answered.
- Arizona sells no fishing-only short-term licence on the pages read. The $15 and $20 day rates are combination hunt-and-fish licences.
- The general fishing licence is priced for adults 18 and over and the youth product is a combination licence for ages 10 to 17. What someone aged 10 to 17 buys who wants to fish and not hunt is not spelled out.
- AZGFD also lists Lifetime, Pioneer, Disabled Veteran and CHAMP licences. Their prices are not on the pages read, so they are described by who qualifies rather than published with a figure.
