June 13 and 14, 2026
WVDNR holds two free fishing days a year and frames them as a family occasion: "Take your son, daughter or grandchild to your favorite fishing spot. No license required on these days."
Confirmed on the agency's own page.
What a free day does not cover
- Bag limits, size limits and closed seasons are unchanged.
- Waters that are closed stay closed.
- Separate permits can still be required — West Virginia charges for conservation stamp (class cs), resident, conservation and law enforcement stamp (class cs/le), nonresident, trout fishing stamp (class o), resident, trout fishing stamp (class oo), nonresident, national forest stamp (class i). Check before you rely on a free day.
- A free day waives the license, not the rules the license comes with.
