Alabama’s free day covers public waters including salt water. The State Public Fishing Lakes are the exception — they still need their own permit — and state park gate fees are unaffected. Nothing else changes: limits, sizes, seasons and closed waters all still apply.

ADCNR opens Alabama’s public waters, salt water included, for one Saturday a year without a fishing licence. State Public Fishing Lakes still require their own permit, private ponds still need the owner’s permission, some piers charge their own fee, and state park gate entry fees still apply.

What a free day does not cover
- Bag limits, size limits and closed seasons are unchanged.
- Waters that are closed stay closed.
- Separate permits can still be required — Alabama charges for wildlife heritage licence, gulf reef fish endorsement. Check before you rely on a free day.
- A free day waives the license, not the rules the license comes with.
